GENERAL INFORMATION

Behn Meyer Thailand operates two sites, one in Ladkrabang and the other in Rayong. The Ladkrabang site has two facilities: an office building and a warehouse for domestic distribution, both of which are accessible via the highway.

The Rayong site, located in Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate, is a production site and also a warehouse for exports.

Their specific functions are as follows:

Warehouse
Stores all chemicals in compliance with safety and handling regulations. Goods are kept in suitable storage areas before they are distributed to our customers.

Production Site
Processes raw materials into useful chemicals and materials, which are then distributed to our customers.

MANAGEMENT APPROACH

Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems have been applied and are presently in practice at Behn Meyer Thailand. Our operational areas adhere strictly to the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. Additionally, we have set for ourselves the target of Total OSHA Incident Rate (OIR) of less than 1 (<1) in 2018.

SAFETY PROCESS

Our SHE (Safety, Health and Environment) department provides direction, communication and clarification on all safety activities, continually assessing and evaluating the company’s performance using Job Safety Analysis (JSA) methods across its sites and production bases. The SHE department also has the responsibility of providing measurements of incidences through written reports in order to increase employee awareness on safety, health and environmental issues. Through frequent monitoring and engagement via monthly safety surveys, we can prevent accidents before they happen.

All chemicals are segregated and stored according to their compatibility, and each container and storage bin location is clearly and legibly labelled to indicate its respective compatibility group. Behn Meyer Thailand adopts the United Nations’ Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals in training and equipping our employees to deal with chemical hazards and identify important information on labels and safety data sheets. Our waste management and collection system prohibits the disposal of chemicals into surface water or sanitary sewer systems without proper treatment, in this way preventing the endangerment of the neighbouring communities.

Adequate fire prevention and containment equipment have been made available around the workplace, maintained according to manufacturer specifications and in compliance with the requirements of the Nation Fire Protection Association (NPFA). Our employees are also trained in the proper procedures for the prevention of fire hazards, and to refer to the safety officer and members of the safety committee in case of emergencies.

TRANSPORTATION SAFETY

The transport of goods out of Behn Meyer Thailand also falls under the scrutiny of our Safety Management System, which ensures punctuality and on-time deliveries according to our customers’ requirements. A safety checklist is utilised during the unloading process to ensure all items are accounted for.

PROMOTION

A safety programme has been developed in order to promote awareness and educate employees and subcontractors on safety risks at work as well as their potential impacts. Safety plans, campaigns, fire containment trainings and personal protection equipment have been provided to all employees. In addition, an e-safety learning programme will be launched in 2020 to further safeguard our employees against workplace risks.
