BM Aquaculture: 10-13 December 2013
World Aquaculture Society (WAS) meeting in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Behn Meyer Aquaculture participated with a great booth and several scientific papers at the World Aquaculture Society (WAS) meeting in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, from December 10-13th, 2013.

Being evidence of Behn Meyer Aquaculture's growing contribution to in the industry in Vietnam and Southeast Asia, all of Behn Meyer's technical papers were selected for oral presentation during the scientific congress that was held concurrently with the WAS meeting and trade show.

Behn Meyer experts delivered highly attended talks on the possibility of using raceways as a tool to prevent the early mortality syndrome in shrimp (Fernando Garcia), the impact of natural minerals on immunity of aquatic species (Dr. Doug Fodge), the role of feeds to combat disease in intensive shrimp farming, and the potency of botanicals in aquaculture feeds (both by Dr. Kok Leong Wee).

The topic on botanicals summarized the state-of-the-art and presented data of Behn Meyer Aquaculture's own research conducted in Vietnam.

Disease occurrences in intensive aquaculture are becoming more prevalent and their impact on productivity more severe, for example, the Acute Hepatopancreatic Necrotic Syndrome (APHNS) in Vannamei in China, Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia. Behn Meyer Aquaculture – an established player in Southeast Asia supplying a range of superior health enhancing products such as prebiotics, probiotics, natural minerals and enzymes, has developed - PhytoVit Aqua, an all-botanical additive containing bioactive compounds rich in polyphenols, anthocyanins and flavonoids with anti-oxidant and immune enhancing properties. Trials with Tilapia and Pangasianodon catfish as well as with marine shrimp have shown that the addition of 1kg/ton feed of Phytovit Aqua led to significant improvements in growth and feed conversion efficiencies. Trials are currently underway in Behn Meyer Aquaculture’s recently expanded research facilities, to investigate the effect of on PhytoVit Aqua on immune response and disease prevention.
