From Confrontation to Collaboration

Behn Meyer at International Planters Conference 2019 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

From 15 – 17 July 2019, the 9th International Planters Conference (IPC) was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This year, a team from Behn Meyer AgriCare participated in the event, representing Behn Meyer at a custom designed booth and showcasing the key product groups offered through AgriCare, namely fertilizers and agrochemicals.

The main topic of the conference was “Labour Shortage: Mitigation and Labour Management”, which describes the current challenge of the local agricultural sector in obtaining and managing labour that is essential to all steps along the value chain.

Sir Jonathon Porritt, the Founder Director of Forum for the Future, delivered the keynote address on the first day, titled, “The Future of Palm Oil: from Confrontation to Collaboration?” The other key speakers included Ybhg Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Lee Oi Hian, FISP, the Chief Executive Officer of Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad (KLK), as well as Mr. Joseph Tek Choon Yee, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of IJM Plantations Berhad, who both presented topical studies on labour management within the industry.

Among the items that were put on display was IMPACT®, a premium compacted compound that was formulated for oil palm, capable of fulfilling all the plant’s macro- and micronutrient needs with 4 round applications per year. More importantly, directly addressing the pressing issue at the heart of the conference’s discussions, IMPACT® is highly recommended for mechanisation, which is one of the solutions to the labour shortage affecting the industry.

The atmosphere at the event was imbued with a real sense of collegiality as industry experts and decisionmakers alike shared information, knowledge and insights on the current trajectory of the industry. During the event, our booth was honoured with the visitation of Mr. Charles Chow Kok Cheng, the Chairman of the Centenary Technical Committee, who presented us with a medal of participation.

We hope to see our partners and collaborators again in our upcoming events, respectively AGMY 2019 which will happen from 26 – 28 September, as well as PIPOC 2019, which will happen from 19 – 21 November 2019.
