In keeping with tradition, the Behn Meyer Malaysia Group of Companies hosted this year’s Chinese New Year Luncheon on Thursday, March 5th 2015. The luncheon, aimed at bringing together the various principals, suppliers, customers, business associates and staff of the Group for an afternoon of good food and great company, was said to be extra special this year as Behn Meyer celebrates its 175th anniversary in 2015.
In view of this significant milestone in Behn Meyer’s history, a record number of guests were invited to partake in the celebrations at the Group’s Malaysian headquarters in Subang Jaya together with the staff from the Group in Malaysia as well as the shareholders and directors from other countries. The total number of attendees for this year’s luncheon was approximately 650 people.
The guests were treated to an array of delicious food that had been prepared especially for the occasion and there were also many new items available on the menu such as grilled stingray and squid with kerapu chilli sauce, delicious dim sum prepared fresh by Holiday Villa Subang, banana fritters and ice kacang together with various other desserts.
The food was served using the live action station concept with guests being treated to live cooking by various chefs at the respective food stalls. The idea certainly contributed to the freshness of the food that was served and ultimately also enhanced the excellent dining experience.
The day’s entertainment was provided by the Kun Seng Keng lion dance troupe who dazzled the guests with their energetic performance, leaping atop poles which were up to three metres high and as far as three metres apart whilst executing difficult dance steps at the ground floor of the office building. These lion dancers never ceased to impress the guests and they were also invited to every other floor of the building to search for the ang pows that had been prepared for them by the Group’s employees.
The highlight of the day was the 175th anniversary cake cutting ceremony by Mr. Jens Kellinghusen and Dr. Dirk Lorenz-Meyer, shareholders of Behn Meyer Deutschland Holding AG & Co KG, accompanied by the directors of the Behn Meyer Group of Companies in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore. The delicious red velvet cake was then given out to the guests of the luncheon shortly before the end of the day’s festivities.
