Located in Nghe An province, Phia Kham School is equipped with poor physical infrastructure due to its remote geographical area. Electricity is rather a valuable commodity here as not many households or schools have access to it.
Understanding how the lack of electricity influences the children’s learning experience, Behn Meyer Vietnam, in coordination with The Voice of Ho Chi Minh City People (VOH) broadcasting station, headed to Phia Kham School on 13 September 2022 to inaugurate solar panel systems installed for the school which was recently re-built using concrete.
The solar panel was chosen as a power source for Phia Kham School because it is less likely to get disrupted by a power outage. Through the installation of these panels, the school, which is located in a low-income area, could save in terms of electricity bills as the energy source does not come from the grid. This effort also corresponds to Behn Meyer’s sustainability effort to reduce pollution and carbon footprint while contributing back to the community.
