Behn Meyer Chemicals Celebrated World Egg Day with Hasanuddin University

Last March, Behn Meyer Chemicals signed a cooperation agreement with Hasanuddin University, Makassar, Indonesia. Besides collaborating in research related to animal husbandry, Behn Meyer Chemicals is also involved in Hasanuddin University's Lecture Series.

Mr (CAND.) IR. Raymundus Genty Laras, CSP, CPM, CDC, S. Pt., IPM, ASEAN ENG., M. Si. as the Head of the Technical Department of Animal Nutrition, was amongst the speakers chosen for the Lecture Series. This online session was also conducted on 15 October 2022 to celebrate World Egg Day.

In this series, Mr Raymundus touched on how to make a functional feed for enriched eggs. He first explained on the importance of Vitamin D for humans. "People only know vitamin D is good for bone and teeth. But the fact is, vitamin D also plays a part in preventing cancer and allergies, as well as strengthening the immune system. That's why vitamin D is needed during the pandemic. We might not know that eggs can contain vitamin D; thus, it's an interesting topic to be explored," said Mr Raymundus.

An egg usually contains 20 - 60 IU of vitamin D, but an enriched egg (60 grams) may contain 270 - 400 IU of the same vitamin, which is ten times more than the normal egg. Good feed formulations are one strategy to improve the egg's vitamin D. Intra Calferol is one of our products that is able to enrich the vitamin D in an egg. This product contains 500,000 IU of Vitamin D3 and is pH neutral, ensuring perfect stability of the Vitamin D3.

This lecture session was attended by more than 200 participants from different communities, such as undergraduate students, postgraduate students, entrepreneurs, business owners, and farmers, that showed their enthusiasm to learn more about animal farming. Future collaborative projects between Behn Meyer Chemicals and Hasanuddin University are hoped to positively impact Indonesia's livestock industry in the long run.
