From 31 October – 1 November 2019, the Coatings team held their regional meeting at The InterContinental Hanoi Westlake, where representatives from Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Myanmar gathered to review the business’s performance in 2019 and to discuss the group direction going towards the year 2025.
The meeting was a truly informative time of sharing and exchanging opinions as we sought to achieve better solutions and actions towards the pursuit of our goals. Through the best practices sharing from each country’s representatives, we were able to come up with new ideas on how we can bring better value to our customers.
The business landscape of the Coatings industry is shifting once again, especially in view of the ongoing trade war. This has created a ripple effect, affecting production and trade on a regional level. Our challenge is to continue serving our customers on a local scale, focusing on adding value wherever we are based geographically.
A key part of achieving success is in learning to work and overcome challenges together – therefore, in the afternoon of the first day, a team building activity was organised for the participants to gather in groups and explore the Tran Quac Pagoda as well as the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum as part of a photo-taking competition. As they toured around Hanoi and took photos as part of the activity, everyone had a great time bonding and working together to take creative photos.
Early the next day, a workshop was conducted with the participants sorted into mixed groups so that they could learn, understand and determine the best course of action according to the Goal-Objective-Strategy-Tactics (GOST) method. As a tool, it was invaluable in helping each team come to their own consensus and fostering a spirit of commitment to see the plan succeed.
As we work on adapting to the ever-changing market, the important aspect is to accept cross-segment, cross-department and cross-division teamwork, integrating among ourselves to capitalise on each other’s strengths. With this in mind, we are hoping for a stronger 2020!
