Behn, Meyer and Co. was established in Singapore on November 1st, 1840 by two young merchants from Hamburg, Theodor August Behn and Valentin Lorenz Meyer.
After developing into a leading trading, plantation and shipping company in Southeast Asia the company was faced with the repeated loss of its Asian subsidiaries due to expropriation during the two World Wars.
However, Behn Meyer managed to survive these crises due to its strong trading base in Germany and was able to once again establish itself as one of the leading trading houses in Southeast Asia. This achievement was the result of the hard work of our employees and all the other stakeholders in the company.
During the nineties the company decided to increasingly focus its activities on the distribution of agrochemicals, fertilizers and specialty additives as well as natural ingredients and fine chemicals. The decision was then taken to venture into the manufacturing of our own products in order to ensure a strong position in the market with a complete and competitive product range.
The result of our focused approach today is that Behn Meyer is now rated by the ICIS as the second best chemical distributor in Asia and the number 15 worldwide.
Behn Meyer currently employs more than 1,000 people in 14 countries and is a specialty supplier to the following industries:
