The main focus is on the use of enzymes to reduce nutrient wastage and pollution, and on antibiotic-free ways to combat and prevent diseases in fish. Based on this work, Behn Meyer Aquaculture’s key product categories for freshwater fish feeds are liquid micro-ingredients and heat-stable prebiotics.
Liquid enzymes are a solution for providing state of the art economical diets for fish. At the same time they are indispensable in sustainable aquaculture because they offer to reduce animal proteins and inorganic minerals in the feed, which would otherwise pollute the water environment. Due to the temperatures reached in the manufacturing process of fish feeds, post-extrusion spraying is the only viable way of applying heat labile ingredients, like enzymes onto the feeds.
Behn Meyer offers Aspergillus and E.coli phytases from Germany (Finase, Finace EC) and a range of enzymes, specifically designed to hydrolyze antigens in feed raw materials (Hemicell). Varying degrees of NSP enzyme activities are added to tailor the liquid enzyme to the individual need of the fish feed producer (Hemicell W).
